Sherardizing as a standalone system is a long lasting, cost efficient method of providing corrosion protection. However, the application of an additional Duplex coating, provides a protective system with immensely superior protection, performance and life expectancy. The duplex system greatly improves resistance to atmospheric corrosion, chemical resistance, reduced friction, electrical resistance and abrasion resistance, due to consisting of both the sacrificial and barrier roles of the sealant.

Duplex systems are ideal in highly corrosive atmospheres such as;

- Highly polluted environments.

Surface Compatibility
The Sherardized coating, unlike other anti corrosion processes such as galvanising, requires no primer or surface finishing prior to the application of additional coatings such as fluoropolymer or inorganic coatings.
The properties of the secondary coating are applied to the component for example improved chemical and wear resistance, reduced friction, and improved aesthetics or colour coding for identification.
